Monday we headed for a drive all the way around the island. Our goal: to see the volcano. It was amazing you could see where it was hitting the water as the clouds came from the ocean up. The girls were troopers because it was about a 4 hour drive just to get to the volcano. But they enjoyed the hike to Thurstan Lava Tube which is a tube(tunnel) created solely from lava a bunch of years ago. although they didnt exactly want to walk thru the tube by themselves the enjoyed the sites from our shoulders. From that we headed back thru Hilo stopping to have the most amazing donut type dessert called Malasadas from Tex's Drive in. They were so much better than any donuts back in Cali. Even the girls agreed on that one.
We ended the day with a dip in the pool and the enjoyed an old favorite of hot dogs and brats in beer butter and onions (For the adults).
